Collection: Abe Kan Brewery
Abe Kan Sake Brewery has been operating a shop at the foot of Shiogama Shrine for many generations.
During the feudal period, the town of Shiogama flourished as a gateway to the sea for the Sendai Domain and as a bustling shrine town under the deep patronage of the Date family, the feudal lords of Sendai. Benefiting from tax exemptions and other privileges, the area prospered, with numerous inns and entertainment districts lining the approach to the shrine, attracting many travelers.
The brewery was founded in 1716, when it received a sake brewing license by order of the Date Domain. This marked the beginning of its role as the official sake supplier to Shiogama Shrine. To this day, it continues to pray for the safety of its brewing operations and to produce sacred sake for Shiogama Shrine and Shiwahiko Shrine. When the brewing season concludes successfully, it offer the newly brewed sake in dedication to the shrines.
