Collection: Nakazawa Sake Brewery
In 1825 (Bunsei 8), under the order of the lord of Odawara Castle, Nakazawa Sake Brewery received the name “Matsumidori 松美酉” and began its sake brewing journey.
This was at the end of the Edo period, when restrictions on sake brewing were lifted due to falling rice prices, leading to a surge of new breweries across Japan.
Two hundred years have passed since then. Brewing techniques have advanced dramatically, yet the number of sake breweries has declined from about 27,000 to just 1,600. Along the way, some traditions and skills may have been lost.
What has never changed, however, is the natural environment that nurtures the sake. For 200 years here in Matsuda Town, Nakazawa Sake Brewery has been blessed with the pure underground waters of the Tanzawa Mountains, the fertile soils, and the winds flowing between Sagami Bay and Mount Fuji.
