Kyoto Fushimi – Tamano Hikari Sake Brewery Co., Ltd.

The history of Tamano Hikari traces back to its founder, Rokuzaemon Nakaya I, who established a sake brewing business in Yoriaimachi, Wakayama, under license from the Kishu Tokugawa clan. After the devastation of World War II, in 1953 (Showa 28), the 11th generation, Fukutoki Ujita, relocated the brewery to Fushimi, Kyoto, where it continues to thrive today.

The name Tamano Hikari is said to reflect the deep devotion of successive generations of Rokuzaemon to Hayatama Shrine in Kumano, Kishu. It embodies the meaning of “the divine spirit of Izanagi-no-Mikoto and Izanami-no-Mikoto shining brightly.”

Tamanohikari Junmai Ginjo

Brewed in Kyoto’s historic Fushimi district, Tamanohikari has dedicated itself for over 350 years to crafting only Junmai Ginjo and Junmai Daiginjo, making it one of the rare “Junmai Ginjo-only” breweries in Japan.

The bottle features a charming design with a full moon and a fox beckoning like a lucky cat. Inside, you’ll find a sake with a delicate rice umami and a crisp, clean finish. Lightly dry and free of off-flavors, it pairs beautifully with fresh sashimi, tempura, or simply grilled fish.

Brewed with the legendary underground water of Fushimi—said to have been used by Toyotomi Hideyoshi for his famous cherry blossom tea gathering—this sake carries the pure taste of Kyoto’s natural bounty.

A perfect gift and a Kyoto specialty, this is a sake that brings good fortune with every glass.
