Brewed with rice, water, and people from Ōarai, this sake reflects the local climate and culture—truly a local sake among local sakes. The brand name Hikoichi comes from Sakamoto Hikoichi, who founded Tsukinokatsura Brewery in Ōarai in 1865. The name was traditionally passed down through generations of brewery owners, but it was discontinued after the early deaths of the 7th-generation owner’s grandfather and father. To carry on this legacy, the new brand Hikoichi was launched in 2014.
“Hikoichi” by Tsukinoi Shuzoten
The name Hikoichi comes from the brewery’s founder, Mr. Sakamoto Hikoichi. Each successive generation of brewers has brought their own individuality and philosophy to the craft, creating sake that they themselves believe to be truly delicious.
This Junmai Daiginjo is brewed with Kame no O rice grown locally in Ōarai. After many years of dedication and refinement, the recipe was finally perfected. While it was once said to have a firm impression when freshly made, with maturation it has developed greater roundness and a smooth, elegant character.
Crafted with care in close collaboration with local rice farmers, the brewer presents Hikoichi as a heartfelt sake.
